The Touchscreen Gets Closer to Living up to its Name

Star Trek told us the future of interfaces was flat touchscreens, but once those arrived, they only felt cool for about a minute. Tactus Technology, a company out of Fremont, CA, seems to want to fix that. It did a public demo this week in Boston of its “Tactile Layer” panel, which uses microfluid to create buttons and formations when needed and then reverts to completely flat when not needed, all without adding any width to the device (be it a smartphone or a remote control or any kind of dashboard).
