So, here’s the lede in a recent Yankee Group Daily insight post on Ford’s connected car efforts:

Ford will soon embark on a three-year partnership with Russia’s St. Petersburg Polytechnic University that will see the American automaker studying space robots in order to improve the technology behind connected cars.

That’s right. Space robots. I love that we live in a world where that phrase can show up in a dry little analyst brief.

But it makes sense. The international space program has a good bit of experience communicating with robots, whether they’re in orbit on the ISS or far out on Mars. That kind of expertise could go a long way in an industry looking to make its products both more connected and more autonomous.
